Is it cake or is it art? Spoiler - it’s both!

I absolutely love making things – I always have and I always will. I also love a challenge, so when my colleague told me about a Jupiter cake in 2014, I had to try it out. It turned out surprisingly well, so next was Cinderella’s carriage…and I was hooked!

Armed with my Fine Art degree, a lifetime of crafting and plenty of determination, I continued baking unusual and complex cakes. Family and friends started dropping hints, then I received a less subtle book called ‘Start a Cake Business From Home’. In 2018, I went part time and started Blue Dotty Apron.

Soon after, I discovered cocoa butter painting. Suddenly, fondant was my canvas and icing models became more life-like. In 2021, I made my husband a cake with a hamster peeking over the edge. To this day, it’s one of my favourites. Since then, I’ve made several animals - even a tarantula! You can see more on my Animal Toppers page

I still have a part time office job at an arts centre, which is equal amounts inspiring and challenging. I feel right at home working with people who share my creative passion, and they love it whenever I trial a new recipe!

I love including personal touches in my cake designs and seeing people’s reaction to them. It makes me so happy to be part of those milestone occasions and see the delight they bring.

My top magical moment was helping my niece cut her birthday cake, revealing the surprise rainbow sponge inside. It’s not just cake; it’s making memories with the people you love.
