About

 Behind the Apron

I have always loved making things, I think it’s in my blood. Growing up I learned how to knit, craft and bake with my Grandma and my Mum who are both very artistic. Grandma’s baking is pretty legendary, especially her potent trifle!

From my Dad, I got my practical side. It drives Mum up the wall but there’s always a project on the go and bits of motorbike or computer litter the house. Although I was never really into the DIY and motorbikes I’ve picked up some useful problem-solving skills and you’d be surprised how similar icing a cake is to putting up wallpaper!

Throughout school my favourite subject was Art and I carried this through to college and university, studying Fine Art at UWE, Bristol. Since graduating I have kept up the craft projects and honed my knitting skills but the main focus has been cakes. Baking gives you so much scope for creativity. For me, baking and cake decorating is hugely satisfying and it’s a great way to make something beautiful or interesting that doesn’t need to be stored anywhere.

My friends and family have kept me incredibly busy with all the birthdays and special occasions and this has given me the opportunity to build up my skills and have fun doing it. I couldn’t have done this without those friends and family, particularly my lovely husband who is my biggest fan and excellent washer upper!
